Burj Khalifa’s Light Show 2018

Burj Khalifa is known for its amazing fireworks display during its New Year celebration.

However, this year they decided not to have the fireworks display but to have a LIGHT SHOW.

I really wanted to watch it, but living in Dubai for three years made me know that all people in the UAE would definitely be heading to the Dubai Mall and/or Burj Khalifa on New Years eve to witness the show on Jan 1 (12:00AM).  True enough, there were a lot of people who attended the event. Metro Station were closed on a certain time because they couldn’t accommodate the number of people heading to The Dubai Mall. I decided to go to Abu Dhabi to have a peaceful celebration with a friend and her family.

We actually watched the show live o n TV while welcomed the New Year… It was a great show, but I think the fireworks display in previous years were more glamorous and exciting.  Nevertheless it was still a very impressive show and they broke the Guiness Book of Worl Record for the ‘largest light and sound show’ on a single building, topping the previous standard set in Hong Kong in 2013.

I thought I would only see the light show on TV and youtube, but was surprised to see the announcement that they would be doing the show every 8pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and every 10pm on Thursdays and Fridays until March 31.  I immediately decided to visit Dubai Mall on a Friday and wait for the show.  I waited in my fave coffee shop inside Souk Al Bahar before the show.

The Light Show was indeed amazing and very mesmerizing… I would have preferred the fireworks but you cannot take away from the organisers the credit of this amazing show. It was good… really good… I don’t think anyone can break this record easily considering that this is being done at the worlds tallest building.  It was a crazy light show… KUDOS to them!

Perhaps next year, a combination of fireworks and light show will topple all other new year show/celebration anywhere in the world.  I can’t wait for that to happen. A big thanks to EMAAR for continuing to show the light show even after the New Year celebration.

Here’s the video I took.  Hope ya’ll like it. 😉
