Rurouni Kenshin or Kenshin the Wanderer was actually shown in Japan last August 25, 2012. However, since we don’t have a distributor for the movie here in the Philippines, it took more than three (3) months for SM Cinema to have it shown here. Rurouni Kenshin is based on the anime series “Samurai X”. I’ve seen the anime series when I was in High School. That was during the late 90s.
The movie is just like the anime series. If you are a fan, then you will be completely satisfied with the movie. The movie runs fro two hours and thirty minutes. It’s quite long and sometimes it gets boring. What I like about the movie are the fighting scenes and the soundtrack. The fighting scenes are well choreograph and almost like the ones we saw in the anime series. But, I wanted to see more of Kenshin’s signature moves. 😉
I watched the movie with a good friend of mine who is also a Samurai X fan. We watched it at SM Lanang Premier. Rurouni Kenshin is exclusively distributed in the Philippines by SM Cinemas. You can only watch it at SM Cinemas nationwide. During the first day of showing, SM Lanang organized a cosplay event as well. It was like a Red carpet Premier. A lot of Kenshin fans came and others wore Kenshin and anime costumes. The event was fun and most especially the movie. If you have seen the anime series and watched the movie, you will not be surprised anymore. The director or writers did not add other elements to make the movie more exciting. They could have executed the movie in a different way. The anime series started in the 90s and now is the age of the new millenium. They should have added more fight scenes and deleted some of the boring lines. hahaha
Although, I still think that those lines are essential to the movie. I think they are still trying to establish the movie and are planning to have another movie. I can’t wait to see the next part of this movie. The actors are also great. Sanusuke is really funny just like in the anime series. Kaoru is also cute and pretty in the movie. If you like watching Japanese films, you might have seen the Kaoru actress in Azumi as one of the assasins.
SM initially announced that Rurouni Kenshin will just run from December 05 to 11 but due to the demands of fans, they already announced that it will still be shown until December 18, 2012.
I love the movie. It is a must watch to all the “Samurai X” fans out there.
