Here in the Philippines, we start celebrating Christmas as early as September. September is the start of the so called “BER-MONTHS“! So, starting September you will notice that people start decorating houses, stores, malls, etc. Christmas is our favorite season of all. Since majority of our people are Christians or Catholics, we value Christmas so much. This is the birth of our savior.
During this season, we often have “exchanging of gifts” at school, office, or even at home. Normally, we only have exchange gifts once. To make the activity more fun we often have a Kris Kringle before the FINAL Exchange of GIfts. Kris Kringle is also exchanging of gifts but only for fun. This is usually done every week before the Final Exchange of gifts. Actually Kris Kringle is Santa Claus. This is the term people use in Germany. This is derived from the word Christ kinde or Christkindl (Christ + Kinde = Christ Child)
This is how we do Kris Kringle in the Philippines:
This year my officemates and I decided to have our Christmas Party on December 16, 2012 and every Saturday starting October 20 we will have a Kris kringle. Every week, we have a different theme on what to give to our Manito or Manita. Manito or Manita is the person you picked whom you will give your gifts to. In our office we agreed to use aliases so as not to identify who we are. This will make the Kris Kringle more exciting and more fun. Here are our Aliases for our Kris Kringle this year. We have decided to use famous actors and actresses from other countries.
Here are our themes this year:
- October 20 – Something Reminiscent of your childhood
- October 27 – Something Imported
- November 03 – Something Wrong
- November 10 – Something Soft
- November 17 – Something Long & Hard
- November 24 – Something that you Need to Insert
- December 01 – Something Funny
- December 08 – Something Handmade
- December 16 – WISHLIST
Before December 16 we will know who is our manito or manita. We won’t be using aliases anymore, we will be using our real identities. We will also post our Wishlist so that whoever picks our name won’t have a hard time looking for a gift. And at the same time all of us will be happy of what we will get. 😀
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
